Flip the Script: Trading Your Negative Thoughts for a Positive Life

Tabitha Goldsmith - May 24, 2023

In the torrent of our lives, we are often caught up in a whirlpool of negative thoughts. We hear a discouraging internal dialogue: “I am never going to figure this out,” “I am stuck,” “I am an anxious person,” “I am horrible at exercising,” “I can’t eat healthy,” “Nothing will ever change,” “I am a failure.”

Does this sound familiar? If it does, it’s time to break the cycle.

Our thoughts directly influence our results and determine our life outcomes. Negative thinking creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you believe you’re a failure, your actions will likely align with that belief. But here’s the exciting part: if your thoughts can pull you down, they can also lift you up.

Shifting the Narrative

The first step is to shift the narrative. We need to replace negative self-perceptions with positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on your perceived failures, think about the areas of your life where you’re already succeeding.

Consider your health. You’re reading this, aren’t you? That’s proof you’re taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle. You are healthier now than you realize.

And here’s another empowering thought. When you engage in an activity, you embody it. When you exercise, you’re an athlete. When you read, you’re a reader. When you dance, you’re a dancer. And when you run, you’re a runner.

We are often too hard on ourselves. Life is a 50-50 deal – it’s not perfect, and neither are we. Some weeks we hit our exercise goals, others we don’t. We strive to parent with kindness and compassion, but sometimes we fall short. The trick is learning how to manage our minds despite these circumstances.

You Are Enough

It’s crucial to know this: you are enough, just as you are. It’s not about transforming overnight; it’s about progressing, one step at a time.

As a life coach, I guide my clients through this mind management process. It’s not always easy, but it’s immensely rewarding and has lifelong benefits.

A Call to Action: Adjust Your Thinking

So, here’s your actionable step: start by changing one thought today. Identify one negative belief about yourself and replace it with a positive, empowering one.

Let’s say you often think, “I am horrible at exercising.” Change it to, “Every time I exercise, I’m becoming healthier and stronger.”

Hold onto this positive thought. Repeat it to yourself, daily. Let it guide your actions and watch how it slowly but surely transforms your reality.

This small change in perspective can create a ripple effect of positivity in your life. It’s about time we think differently about ourselves. Let’s start now!

Remember, what you think, you become. So, think positively, act accordingly, and transform your life for the better.
